12/01/09 Tuesday:
Talked with the nurse coordinator in Duke today, she told me tomorrow at 10 a.m. I am going to get a phone call from her and the physician to discuss what is going to be happening with Terry. Still waiting on the insurance company to approve this whole thing, figures!!!
12/07/09 Monday
Still no word from the insurance company on whether they will allow an out of state/out of network authorization!! Imagine that, an insurance company who values money over life, who would've thought they would be like that???? Anyway, went to Good Samaritan Hospital after Terry got home from school today and got his bloodwork done so they could get going on finding a donor for him, another step completed...Got an information packet from Duke University on this procedure, wow, a lot to take in and absorb!!! I'll send out the medical release form to them tomorrow or Wednesday...I can't say enough kind words to the people that I am dealing with on a daily basis from Duke Children's Hospital, their prompt phone calls and emails back to me leads me to believe there is hope for humanity...And to all my friends and family who visit this site and also call me, thank you...I'm fighting like hell to keep that little guy around for a very long time!!!
12/11/09 Friday:
Major roadblock this week, Terry's insurance approved him for the evaluation (testing) down in Duke but his insurance was terminated on November 30th!!! But with me going to the Dept. of Social Services, filling out paperwork and the constant calls to Medicaid from the staff at Duke and the help from Medicaid, Terry's insurance was reinstated yesterday and today we were given approval for the evaluation and if he passes all the testing he is approved for the cord blood transplant!!! Waiting on the call now as to when we have to be down there....Will update all when I get the call....
12/19/09 Saturday:
Insurance has been reinstated and everything is approved.....They will start testing at Duke on Jan. 4th and I'm leaving with the little guy on Jan. 2nd. Told him the other night what was going on and at first he was really happy but soon the tears started flowing and I asked him what was wrong, he said that he was going to miss his family and friends, that broke my heart. Had my parent/teacher conference Thursday and they are working with me with everything. They're going to set up a webcam in his classroom so that Terry can have snack with them once in a while via the internet. They are also going to send a project or two down to the hospital so Terry can do it with them also. Even when we're down there they tell me that Terry is still part of his class. I can't begin to explain the feelings and thanks I have for everyone devoting their time and putting forth all the effort to make this as easy as they possibly can for us. We've begun the fight and Terry is on his way to victory!!!

Got the news yesterday afternoon that the apartment will be ready for us when we arrive on Sunday afternoon Jan. 3rd. Many thanks to Kelly from The Hunter's Hope Foundation for arranging all this for us and thank you to Jim Kelly and his Hunter's Hope Foundation for making housing available during this long tough time ahead......
